Role Purpose

The Risk and Compliance Trainee will provide support in the implementation of risk management and compliance frameworks across the business. The position is ideal for a proactive and ethical individual looking to start a career in compliance within a regulated financial environment.

What you will do

  • Support communication with regulators, including TIRA, TRA, and FIU, on compliance-related matters

  • Track regulatory changes and recommend policy updates

  • Prepare and submit compliance and regulatory reports

  • Conduct compliance risk assessments for business processes and departments

  • Monitor high-risk transactions and ensure due diligence procedures are followed

  • Maintain and update internal compliance policies and operating manuals

  • Support the implementation of AML/CFT and Data Protection standards

  • Carry out KYC reviews and escalate suspicious cases

  • Prepare and file Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs)

  • Organise compliance awareness and ethics training sessions

  • Promote a culture of integrity and regulatory compliance within the business

  • Support both internal and external compliance audits

  • Investigate breaches and ensure timely corrective action

  • Maintain incident logs and follow up on outstanding audit issues

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance reports

  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes affecting insurance operations

  • Provide compliance support to business functions to prevent risk exposure

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Risk Management, Compliance, Insurance, Actuarial Science, or related field

  • 1–2 years’ experience in compliance, audit, legal, or risk management

  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks in the financial or insurance sectors

  • Understanding of compliance regulations, risk management, and governance standards

  • Strong report writing, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili

  • Strong ethics, attention to detail, and ability to handle confidential information

  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks

  • Familiarity with AML, Data Privacy, and insurance regulations is an added advantage
