About UDSM
The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) — Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam — is a public academic institution located in the Ubungo District of the Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania. Founded in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London, it later became part of the University of East Africa (UEA) in 1963 after Tanzania gained independence.
In 1970, UEA was dissolved, giving rise to three independent universities: Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, commonly known as UDSM.
Today, UDSM stands as one of the leading centers of teaching, research, and innovation in East Africa.
