About TANICA PLC
Tanganyika Instant Coffee Public Limited Company (TANICA PLC) was originally founded on 30 September 1963 as Tanganyika Instant Coffee Company Limited (TANICA LTD) under the Companies Ordinance (Cap. 212). Production of instant coffee began in 1967, marking the start of Tanzania’s journey into large-scale instant coffee manufacturing.
The company remained state-owned until 2004, when it was privatized. In January 2005, smallholder coffee farmers from the Kagera Region—through their unions, KCU and KDCU, along with the Tanzania Federation of Co-operatives (TFC)—acquired Government shares through an open tender. These farmer organizations work closely with partners who support organic coffee production and fair-trade practices, ensuring that their investment in TANICA contributes to improving the livelihoods of small coffee growers.
TANICA PLC is committed to maximizing the effective use of its human and material resources to produce high-quality pure instant coffee for both local and international markets.
