LVIA is an Italian humanitarian organisation working in ten African countries. In Tanzania, LVIA has been active for over three decades, supporting communities in areas such as clean water supply, agriculture, public health, and local development. The Tanzania country office is based in Kongwa District, Dodoma Region.
About the Project
The advertised position is part of the “Kijani Pemba – Strengthening Urban Eco-Resilience in Chake Chake and Mkoani” project, funded by the European Union. The project promotes environmentally sustainable urban development in South Pemba by enhancing climate resilience and improving access to essential services. It also supports economic empowerment initiatives targeting women and youth through green jobs and waste management solutions.
Role Purpose
The Environmental Engineer will support project implementation, focusing on solid waste management, environmental protection, and sustainable urban planning. The position involves field coordination, technical supervision, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities

Participate in the planning and execution of environmental activities under the project

Support in identifying waste collection points and designing waste management facilities

Supervise construction and waste handling operations to ensure environmental compliance

Prepare technical inputs for procurement processes

Lead trainings for stakeholders on waste management practices

Work closely with local government, community groups, and partner organisations

Prepare technical reports and correspondence

Develop monthly activity plans

Support environmental awareness campaigns
-
Maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders

Carry out additional duties assigned by the Project Coordinator
Required Profile
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline

At least three years of relevant work experience

Experience working with donor-funded projects, preferably NGOs
-
Familiarity with communities in Zanzibar or coastal regions
-
Strong background in environmental management and waste solutions
-
Proficiency in English and Kiswahili (written and spoken)

Advanced computer skills: MS Office, CAD, QGIS or similar tools

Tanzanian nationality

Knowledge of circular economy approaches

Ability to train and mobilise community groups

Strong problem-solving and coordination skills

Experience in soil or water resource management

A valid motorcycle riding license is an added advantage
