Role Overview

Amet Resources is seeking a skilled Drill Operator to support our mining and exploration operations. This role is critical for the safe, precise, and efficient execution of drilling activities on site. The successful candidate will operate and maintain RC rigs, compressors, boosters, hydraulic systems, and other drilling equipment essential for daily mining, sampling, and geotechnical tasks.

The Drill Operator will be responsible for reverse circulation (RC), geotechnical, and exploration drilling, ensuring high-quality sample recovery and consistent rig performance. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic issues.

This position involves working both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, geotechnical technicians, mechanics, welders, electricians, and drilling assistants. Experience in mining or exploration environments, with a focus on safety, equipment reliability, and operational discipline, is highly preferred.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in Swahili and English is essential for communication, reporting, and safety compliance.

Safety Compliance: Amet Resources enforces a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol, illegal substances, and unauthorized drugs. All employees must adhere to HSE regulations, attend safety briefings, and participate in random inspections.

Accommodation: The role requires residence at the company camp during rotations. Candidates must be adaptable to remote field conditions and ready to support continuous drilling operations.

What you will do

  • Operate RC drilling rigs safely, efficiently, and according to technical specifications.

  • Drill to required depths (typically up to 100 m; future capability up to 150–200 m).

  • Set up, align, and stabilize drilling rigs on designated drill pads.

  • Monitor drilling parameters such as air pressure, rotation speed, penetration rate, and equipment temperature.

  • Handle drill rods, hammers, bits, subs, and drilling consumables safely.

  • Manage compressors, boosters, and air systems to ensure stable drilling performance.

  • Ensure accurate and uncontaminated sample recovery using cyclone and splitter systems.

  • Prevent cross-contamination, sample loss, or mislabeling during operations.

  • Record drilling depths, sample intervals, geological observations, and field data accurately.

  • Maintain chain of custody and assist geologists with sample handling.

  • Conduct daily equipment inspections, pre-start checks, and routine maintenance.

  • Perform minor mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting, including hose replacement and greasing.

  • Identify and report mechanical issues, breakdowns, or unsafe conditions.

  • Maintain rig cleanliness, organized tools, and safe storage of equipment.

  • Assist with geotechnical drilling and installation of monitoring devices as required.

  • Support geologists and geotechnical technicians with ground assessments and field measurements.

  • Follow all HSE rules and company safety procedures.

  • Attend toolbox meetings, safety briefings, and mandatory training sessions.

  • Report incidents, hazards, equipment issues, and near misses immediately.

  • Complete daily drilling logs, shift reports, and equipment usage records accurately.

  • Comply with the company’s zero-tolerance policy on alcohol, drugs, and unauthorized items.

  • Adhere to rotation schedules and reside at the mine camp during shifts.

  • Maintain professionalism, reliability, teamwork, and discipline in a remote site environment.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a supervisory or operational role in a mining environment.

  • Solid understanding of mining operations and drilling techniques.

  • Ability to work responsibly and collaboratively within a team.

  • Proficiency in English and Swahili.
