The Emalahleni Local Municipality is calling on ambitious young residents to apply for its External Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. This initiative aims to provide financial support to deserving students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds within the municipality who wish to pursue full-time undergraduate studies at public universities or TVET colleges in South Africa.
Through this programme, the municipality continues its commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, and access to higher education — with a focus on qualifications that contribute to the growth and sustainability of both the local community and the nation.
Who Can Apply
To be considered for the bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Must be a South African citizen and a resident of Emalahleni.

Must be between 18 and 35 years old.

Must intend to pursue undergraduate studies at a public higher education institution in South Africa.

Must demonstrate financial need, supported by proof of household income.

Must provide complete and accurate information on the application form.

Must be willing to sign a bursary agreement with the Emalahleni Local Municipality.
The municipality also encourages applications from persons with disabilities.

Grade 11 report (if currently in Grade 12)

Matric statement of results (if Grade 12 is completed)

Academic record (if currently enrolled in tertiary studies)

Certified copies of achievement or merit certificates

Proof of residence within Emalahleni

Proof of financial need (payslips or affidavit)

Provisional acceptance letter from a public university or TVET college
