Role Purpose
The Operations Manager will be responsible for driving safe, efficient, and sustainable mine production. The role focuses on optimising mine plans, managing people and equipment, and implementing systems that deliver consistent results at world-class standards.
A major part of the role involves building and coaching a capable leadership team, promoting best mining practices, and ensuring that operational performance supports the company’s long-term strategic goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification in Management will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years in mining operations, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven background in mine planning, fleet management, and contractor supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver safe, sustainable production in large-scale open-pit and/or underground operations within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
- Support the Managing Director in developing and executing optimised business and mine plans.
- Develop and implement a 3–5-year operational plan aligned with corporate strategy.
- Oversee both long-term and short-term planning to ensure safe, cost-effective operations.
- Contribute to strategic discussions that sustain mine life and create long-term value.
Operations Management
- Lead and coordinate mine operations in alignment with company objectives.
- Integrate functions across planning, geology, engineering, and operations for seamless execution.
- Promote localisation and career development for Tanzanian management staff.
- Establish effective operating systems and performance frameworks.
- Define and implement good mining practices to achieve consistent results.
- Collaborate with the Geology team to improve ore recovery and optimise mining methods.
- Identify potential risks and take proactive steps to mitigate them.
Contractor Management
- Set clear expectations for contractors on safety, quality, cost, and performance.
- Manage contractor relationships to ensure accountability and operational excellence.
Fleet Management
- Oversee fleet selection, deployment, and maintenance planning.
- Review fleet utilisation to improve efficiency and lower operational costs.
- Support managers in developing cost-effective fleet optimisation strategies.
