We are a leader in implementing cost-effective, evidence-based programs that empower poor and disadvantaged communities, particularly in low-income countries and in conflict-affected or post-disaster settings.

Founded in Bangladesh in 1972 by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, BRAC has grown to become the world’s largest NGO in terms of staff and people reached, with operations in 11 countries across Asia and Africa. We have consistently been ranked the #1 NGO in the world by NGO Advisor, recognised for our innovation, impact, and governance.

BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania began operations in 2006, focusing on Agriculture, Youth and Women Empowerment, Food Security, and Livelihoods.

About the Programme

In partnership with the MasterCard Foundation, BRAC International is leading an ambitious initiative to impact 1.2 million adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) directly, and 9.5 million people indirectly across seven countries in East and West Africa (Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda).

This program responds to the urgent need to support AGYW living in poverty, a challenge further intensified by the global pandemic. By equipping them with skills, tools, financial access, and advocacy opportunities, the initiative ensures they can transition safely into adulthood and build sustainable livelihoods.
