Overview

Equity Bank is expanding its footprint across Tanzania and is looking for dynamic, results-driven professionals to join the Retail Banking team as Relationship Managers – Business (7 vacancies).

These roles are based in our new branches and will play a critical part in driving business development, customer growth, portfolio quality, and profitability. Role Purpose

The Relationship Manager – Business will lead and coordinate the business development unit within the branch. You will be responsible for supervising Relationship Officers, building and maintaining customer relationships, driving deposit and loan growth, ensuring portfolio quality, and maximising non-funded income through cross-selling.

This position is not just about meeting targets — it’s about shaping customer trust, developing innovative solutions, and contributing to the sustainable growth of Equity Bank.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow branch performance.
  • Develop and implement annual business and sales strategies aligned with branch goals.
  • Grow CASA deposits to contribute at least 70% of branch deposits.
  • Build and manage a quality loan portfolio across customer segments.
  • Recruit and support Equity Agents, Super Agents, and merchants to ensure growth in transactions and POS performance.
  • Drive adoption of digital platforms (ABC) to reduce branch traffic and increase non-funded income (NFIs).
  • Cross-sell a wide range of banking products — aiming for at least eight products per customer.
  • Reduce the number of dormant accounts to less than 15% of branch customers.
  • Mentor and supervise Relationship Officers, ensuring adherence to policies (KYC, AML).
  • Provide timely reports and insights on market trends, customer feedback, and branch performance.
  • Represent Equity Bank with clients, institutions, and community stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Credit Analyst, Financial Planner) are an advantage.
  • Formal credit training is highly valued.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ banking experience in business development, portfolio management, or client acquisition.
  • Strong background in trade finance, project finance, asset financing, or export development.
  • Proven ability to grow and manage customer relationships.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of banking products, including trade finance, project finance, corporate finance, and risk participation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to thrive in a diverse, fast-paced environment.
  • Firm grasp of risk management, compliance (KYC, AML), and regulatory standards.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours to meet branch and client needs.
