Role Summary
The Sharia and Products Officer will play a key role in ensuring that all bank activities, products, and services comply with Islamic principles. The role involves reviewing operations, training staff, supporting product development, and guiding teams to maintain compliance with Sharia rulings while meeting business objectives.
The position reports directly to the Sharia and Products Manager.
What you will do
- Conduct regular reviews and assessments to ensure all bank operations and activities comply with Sharia principles.
- Identify areas for improvement in processes, product features, and implementation practices.
- Provide training to staff across departments to strengthen understanding and application of Islamic banking concepts.
- Work closely with the marketing team to review advertising, promotional materials, and public communications to ensure they align with Sharia standards.
- Support the financing and business teams to ensure that all products are implemented in accordance with Sharia guidelines and internal manuals.
- Oversee the administration of Charity and Zakat Fund activities, including verification of applications and field visits to beneficiaries.
- Offer advice and guidance to both staff and clients on Islamic financial instruments and related Sharia matters.
- Assist in the development of new Sharia-compliant products and the enhancement of existing ones.
- Review and maintain product documentation, contracts, and related forms.
- Prepare and update product performance reports every quarter.
- Contribute to Fatawa (Sharia rulings) management and ensure proper documentation.
- Support the preparation of user-friendly product guides and staff training materials.
- Help organise and manage training programs on Sharia and product knowledge.
- Follow up on Sharia audit findings to ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Participate in the periodic review of policies, manuals, and other internal documents.
- Assist in managing the Charity Fund and ensure proper governance and record-keeping.
Who We’re Looking For
- Strong commercial awareness with a deep understanding of Sharia principles.
- Innovative and analytical mindset, capable of providing practical, Sharia-compliant solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to train and coach others on Islamic banking and finance.
- Sound understanding of Islamic banking operations within the Tanzanian market.
- Product knowledge and an innovative approach to product development and improvement.
- Professional integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to compliance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Banking and Finance, or a degree in Banking, Finance, or Commerce with additional certification or diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance.
- Professional qualifications in Islamic Banking, Sharia (Jurisprudence), or Islamic Studies will be an added advantage.
- Prior experience in a similar role within a financial institution is preferred.
