Role Overview
The Senior Internal Auditor leads end-to-end audits within FINCA Tanzania’s annual audit plan—from scoping and risk assessment through fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up. The role spans financial, operational, and IT audits across functional and business units, ensuring control effectiveness, compliance with standards, and actionable recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan & Lead Audits: Own audit planning, fieldwork execution, and post-audit activities for assigned engagements.
- Financial Reviews: Conduct monthly and quarterly reviews of financial statements, thoroughly documenting procedures and conclusions.
- Reporting & Recommendations: Draft and/or review clear, well-supported audit comments and reports that align with internal guidelines and provide practical, value-adding recommendations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Monitor engagement progress, manage expectations, and maintain constructive relationships with audit clients to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Issue Resolution: Surface and help resolve obstacles impacting the audit team’s performance; address outstanding questions promptly.
- Follow-up: Track remediation and verify the timely and proper closure of audit findings.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Professional Credentials (preferred): CPA, CIA, CMA, CFE, CISA, or advanced standing in a recognised professional program.
- Experience: At least 3 years in auditing—ideally external audit, banking, or microfinance. Intense business/operations exposure may be considered.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid grasp of business/financial processes, internal controls, IFRS, IPPF, and The IIA Standards.
- Core Skills: Analytical rigour, clear written communication, stakeholder management, and the ability to translate findings into pragmatic improvements.
