    Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is offering young South Africans the opportunity to grow their careers through an Internship Programme 2025. This initiative is designed to nurture fresh talent in both creative and administrative fields, giving graduates practical workplace exposure in one of the country’s leading arts and culture institutions.

    Successful candidates will gain valuable skills through mentorship, on-the-job learning, and hands-on projects. Interns will be placed across Johannesburg’s major theatres Joburg Theatre, Soweto Theatre, and Roodepoort Theatre  depending on their area of specialisation.

    Available Internship Opportunities

    Programming (3 posts)

    Interns will assist with planning, coordinating, and evaluating artistic productions and events.
    Qualifications Required:

    • Degree/Diploma in Performing Arts, Theatre Studies, Cultural Management, or related fields.

    • Strong organisational skills and a passion for the performing arts.

    Stage

    Interns will learn technical theatre practices, including lighting, sound, set construction, and backstage operations.
    Qualifications Required:

    • NQF Level 6/7 in Technical Theatre, Stagecraft, or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (with theatre interest).

    • Practical knowledge of stage equipment will be advantageous.

    Marketing

    Interns will support audience development, branding, ticket sales, and marketing campaigns.
    Qualifications Required:

    • Degree/Diploma in Marketing, Communications, or Business Management.

    • Strong communication, research, and digital marketing skills.

    Graphic Design

    Interns will design creative visuals for campaigns, social media, and event promotions.
    Qualifications Required:

    • Degree/Diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or Multimedia.

    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

    Employee Relations

    Interns will assist with HR functions, staff relations, and policy compliance.
    Qualifications Required:

    • Degree/Diploma in Human Resource Management, Labour Relations, or Industrial Psychology.

    • Knowledge of labour laws and HR practices.

    Marketing & Public Relations

    Interns will manage publicity campaigns, media relations, and theatre promotions.
    Qualifications Required:

    • Degree/Diploma in Public Relations, Communications, or Journalism.

    • Excellent writing, presentation, and media engagement skills.

    Building & Security

    Interns will gain experience in facilities management, occupational health and safety, and security operations.
    Qualifications Required:

    • Degree/Diploma in Safety Management, Security Studies, Facilities Management, or related fields.

    • Knowledge of OHS regulations will be an advantage.

    Who Can Apply?

    • South African citizens between 18–35 years old.

    • Must hold a completed relevant Diploma/Degree.

    • Must be unemployed and not previously enrolled in an internship programme.

    • Passionate about the arts and committed to personal growth.
