About TANROADS
The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is a government agency responsible for the management of the national road network and airport development in mainland Tanzania. TANROADS oversees planning, design, construction, and maintenance of roads to support the country’s socio-economic growth, as well as Axle Load Control Operations through weighbridge systems.
For the ongoing Kahama–Bulyanhulu–Kakola Road Upgrade Project, TANROADS Shinyanga is seeking to recruit a qualified and competent professional to fill the position of Environmentalist on a contract basis.
Entry Qualifications
To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be a Tanzanian citizen
- Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Environmental Science and Management
- Environmental Planning and Management
- Geography and Environmental Studies
- Or equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution
- At least two (2) years of working experience in a related field
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Environmentalist will play a central role in ensuring environmental and social safeguards are fully implemented throughout the project. Responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing the Construction Environmental and Social Management Plan (C-ESMP) to ensure compliance with the approved Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and national standards
- Verifying environmental permits, licenses, and approvals, while keeping track of changes in environmental legislation
- Conducting environmental risk assessments and due diligence, including site inspections to identify hazards or liabilities
- Facilitating stakeholder engagement by participating in community consultations and liaising with government agencies and affected parties
- Supervising environmental mitigation measures such as waste management, pollution control, and resource conservation
- Monitoring proper storage, handling, and disposal of all waste, including hazardous materials
- Reviewing and validating progress reports to ensure environmental measures are being implemented correctly
- Recording and resolving environmental and social grievances through the established grievance redress mechanism
- Carrying out any other duties assigned by the Project Manager (PM)
