Vacancy Announcement: Project Accountant at RAFIKI-SDO (September 2025)

Introduction

Rafiki Social Development Organisation (RAFIKI-SDO) is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting children, youth, marginalised and vulnerable groups, families, and their communities. Since its establishment in January 2005, RAFIKI-SDO has been working to address the root causes of poverty and injustice while advocating for human rights. The organisation is legally registered under the NGO Act of 2002 with registration number 00NGO/R1/00226 to operate in the Tanzania Mainland.

In partnership with PACT, RAFIKI-SDO is implementing the USAID Adolescents and Children HIV Incidence Reduction, Empowerment and Virus Elimination (ACHIEVE) project. ACHIEVE aims to sustain HIV epidemic control among pregnant and breastfeeding women, adolescents, infants, and children. The project also emphasises gender-based violence prevention and empowering youth to build their own futures.

To strengthen project implementation, RAFIKI-SDO is inviting applications from qualified and motivated candidates for the following position:

Position Details

  • Job Title: Project Accountant (1 Post)

  • Office Location: Mara Region

  • Work Station: Musoma MC

  • Reporting To: Project Manager

  • Duration: 5 Months (Full-Time)

  • Salary: Attractive package

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Establish financial systems and policies ensuring compliance with organisational and donor standards.

  • Provide financial and administrative support in the design, implementation, and monitoring of project activities.

  • Maintain audit trails for project matters, including proper bookkeeping and filing.

  • Conduct bank reconciliations and maintain internal controls.

  • Develop and monitor project budgets.

  • Manage sub-agreements, subcontracts, and MOUs.

  • Provide staff training on donor requirements and financial systems.

  • Monitor and analyse project expenses monthly and quarterly.

  • Ensure timely preparation of financial reports and cash requests.

  • Oversee compliance with donor financial policies and Tanzanian statutory requirements (PAYE, WHT, NSSF, WCF, HESLB, etc.).

  • Supervise finance and administrative staff to ensure effective workflow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in donor-funded development programs and financial management.

  • At least 3 years in a supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

  • Proven work experience as an Accountant.

  • Excellent proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software.

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • High level of confidentiality and integrity.
